Unknown artists don’t get much more mysterious than Gordo. We’ve only managed to find minimal information about him over at Triple J Unearthed, so yes - you guessed it - he’s Australian. The only other intel we have to hand is that he’s from Melbourne, is 19 years old and creates “music for falling in love, inspired by the nostalgia of early 2000's ABC shows aired around 3pm.” Taking a cue from that description, his track ‘Brady’ is all infatuated vocals that swim through a hazy production of electronic heartbeat thuds, surges of watery synths, impulsive guitar licks, a strange sample of bubbling water and all broken up with seemingly random moments of silence, like a sharp intake of breath. It’s a fantastically misshapen piece of electronic pop that has left everyone who has encountered Gordo and (what we assume to be) his debut ‘Brady’ guessing. Who is he? What’s going on here? What does he want? Whether you’re a music detective or a happily satiated listener, there’s not doubt that this ember of an online blog secret will catch light soon. - HT
